Bruckner had her first role as a teenager when she appeared in Blue Car (2002). Bruckner was a character from high school who is involved in a relationship with her teacher and David Strathairn. Bruckner received an Independent Spirit Award nomination for "Best Female Lead" for this part. Her family consisted of two siblings and a brother. Hungarian was her first language and was regularly practiced to achieve the fluency. Bruckner was born in Hollywood California to a Hungarian father as well as an Russian mother, who later divorced her paternal grandfather was German. The couple met in Hungary and immigrated to the U.S. in 1984 through the refugee camp located in Italy. She is the sister of two brothers, and also has two other sisters.
